History

1899

Formation of the „Vereinigte Glanzstoff Fabriken“, the forerunner to the present day ENKA company, in Oberbruch near Aachen. The basis for business was the registered patent for production of cellulosic filament yarn in 1897.

1901
Relocation of the Head Office to Elberfeld, which is now a district of Wuppertal.
1910
Commercial production of ENKA® Viscose filament yarns via the discontinuous spool spinning process for textile applications begins.
1955
Development of the spinning process for the continuous production of viscose filament yarns.
1985
Further refinement of the continuous production method resulting in the “continue process“, now called ENKA® CHEV technology.
1999

Foundation of Acordis, ENKA is an independent member of the Acordis Group.

2004
ENKA® Viscose filament yarn is produced by two different methods - the spool spinning method and the continuous method with CHEV technology - in four production facilities in Germany
2005 Enka was sold by Acordis to the International Chemical Investors Group.
2006 Foundation of a joint venture with Jilin Chemical Fibre Stock Co. Ltd, Jilin/China. The goal is to produce ENKA® Viscose filament yarn by the continuous method with CHEV technology from mid 2007 in China.
